The Chamber is proud to welcome one of our members back to Cherokee County November 19th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm for a book signing at the chamber office.

Diann Cruickshank has just released her new book, “Secrets About The Secret Bed and Breakfast Lodge.” As many of you know, Carl and Diann opened The Secret in 1995 in Leesburg and operated the B&B until 2011.  After sixteen years of hosting guests, they decided to sell The Secret, retire and move near Auburn and their children and grandchildren.  A few years later, they realized they had accumulated some of the funniest stories and didn’t want to risk forgetting any of them.  With encouragement from Carl, Diann began to write the stories in a journal and eventually made the decision to share them.  And now she’s telling “all” in her book as she shares funny, sometimes heartbreaking and often surprise-ending stories about their former guests and her life with her “Yankee” of a husband!

The last section of the book is filled with favorite recipes from innkeepers throughout the state of Alabama who are members of The Bed and Breakfast Association of Alabama, an association that ensure the highest standards for B&B’s in the state.

If you like to read, laugh, cook or know someone who does, this just might be the answer for that special someone on your Christmas list!

Diann taught at Centre Elementary School and was the counselor at Cherokee County High School from 1970 until 1995. In January of that year she accepted a position at Gadsden State Community College as an admissions counselor.  She was transferred to Gadsden State Cherokee as the director of the site on the By-Pass and later completed her forty-two year educational at new site of Gadsden State Cherokee in 2011.

The Cruickshank’s are donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book to those who bravely and selflessly serve or have served our country.
